Merchants Of Brooklyn: M.O.B

LANGUAGE: English
YEAR: 2009 PC
PUBLISHER: Paleo Entertainment
DEVELOPER: Paleo Entertainment
SIZE: 839Mb
GENRE: shooter
DESCRIPTION: There are plenty of reasons for plenty of people to dislike and steer completely clear of San Diego-based Paleo Entertainment’s very first solo shooter, Merchants of Brooklyn. Reason Number One: It’s violent. Ultra-violent. Imagine, if you will, a weapon that not only blows a guy to smithereens and covers the screen with more blood than a MASH unit, but also causes him to burst into flames and even projectile vomit all over himself for several painful seconds before he blows up. And if that isn’t disgusting enough for you, imagine grabbing one of his severed legs and whacking another dude over the head with it until he, in turn, spews even more blood and vomit and flames. Ew. But while fans of graphic gore may get the warm fuzzies just thinking about such brutality, it’s substantially harder getting around Reason Number Two. When Paleo released MoB via online game distributor Steam on March 17th of this year, it did so in error. In serious error. Instead of a final, play-tested product, Paleo mistakenly offered up a thoroughly buggy, almost unplayable alpha build. How and why something so bizarre could happen is unknown, but it was an inauspicious debut to be sure.

Zombie Panic: Source

Language: Eng, Rus Developer: Zombie Panic Team
Valve Corporation
Publisher: ZP Development Team
2.65 Gb
Genre: Action (Shooter) / Online-Only / 3D / Survival Horror

Description:
Zombie Panic! Source is a thrilling online multi-player game that keeps you at the edge of your computer seat. And the best part is, the game is free! This fantastic game is about the Zombies team versus the Survivors team. You can play on a ZPO map which stands for Zombie Panic Objective, or you can play on a ZPS which stands for Zombie Panic Survival!
When the round starts humans desperately look for a gun, and on their way, they hope to not get eaten by some flesh hungry zombies. The main weapons that most survivors look for in the beginning is the magnum, shotguns, and the rifles. In my experience, I would say shoot the zombie in the head if you want to bring it down fast and save more ammunition.
Now on the Zombie side, when the round starts, the starving zombies try to find the best way to have a human happy meal. Some zombies hide in rooms and some just go straight for a human. On the zombie side, there is a zombie called the “Whitey.” Every round there is one “Whitey on the zombie team, and if he hits a survivor, that survivor has a chance of infecting being infected. If a survivor gets hit by the “Whitey” and he is infected, then he has about a minute before he turns to the other side.
I would most definitely recommend this game to anyone out there that has a computer good for
gaming. And remember, it’s free!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Language: Eng, Rus
PC
Developer: Raven Software Amaze Entertainment
Publisher: Activision
3.16 Gb

Genres: Action / 3D / 3rd Person
Description: X-Men Origins: Wolverine will give you new insight into how much damage indestructible, razor-sharp claws can do to a human body. This is a game that revels in gore, with decapitations, eviscerations, and mutilations drenching the screen in blood. It may be derivative, a cakewalk, and at times buggy, but the sheer visceral impact of the over-the-top violence in X-Men Origins is enough to make it a fun action game, as well as one of the better movie tie-ins released recently. t helps that the violence in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is backed up by decent gameplay, and though it doesn’t bring anything new to the third-person action genre, it’s still solid and satisfying at most times.

Review: Hydrophobia Prophecy

Hydrophocia Prophecy is significantly improved then the Original Hydrophobia, but not all the issues have been resolved.

Hydrophobia Prophecy is an improved version of Hydrophocia which was released last year on Xbox Live Arcade. Hydrophobia is a tense third-person adventure, with an innovative physics engine which accurately simulates the flow of huge amounts of water.
This normally life-giving liquid dominates the environments, forcing you to deal with the game's challenging puzzles and action in surprising new ways.
The events unfold on a huge ship, The Queen of the World, which contains the Five Founding Fathers, who are corporate men who have prospered while others have struggled to sustain themselves during the massive population surge. The ship is attacked by terrorists calling themselves the Malthusians (named after politician Thomas Malthus, who predicted that population growth would outstrip agricultural development.) Cue the reluctant hero, systems engineer Kate Wilson, who attempts to uncover the terrorist plot and save the ship's passengers. Wilson is a believable central character, and it's refreshing to see a strong female protagonist who is able to overcome tough situations without the aid of a male hero.

In the PC version of the game, the story is fleshed out with additional cutscenes and an extra layer to the terrorists' plot. Rather than just causing terror, the Malthusians are aiming to steal technology from The Queen of the World and weaponize it. You are also introduced to the leader of the terrorists for the first time. These new story elements create a great deal more intrigue and add to the game's violent vision of Earth's future. Unfortunately, not all of these additions are explored to their full potential, especially when you reach the new ending, which comes very suddenly and doesn't really tie up any of the story threads. In addition to the new plot elements, the voice of Scoot has been recast, which makes a big difference. The laughably bad acting in the original detracted from the events of the story and often spoiled the dark atmosphere. This role is now delivered in a more convincing manner, which makes the story much more believable.

When the ship is damaged by the terrorists' attack, Kate must move through its dark interior trying to halt their progress in any way she can. With the hull breached, you have to contend with highly realistic flowing water that, while often a source of tension, can be manipulated to solve puzzles or gain a tactical advantage in combat. In puzzles, water is generally used to help you traverse an area or reach something that was previously inaccessible. One such scenario has you destroy a section of the ship's already-damaged hull to fill a large area with water, which then allows Kate to swim up to a spot that was previously out of the reach. In combat, exploding a floating fuel drum creates huge waves that unbalance your foes or send them flying into the environment, knocking them out and drowning them. You can even start oil fires on the surface of the water and then manipulate the waves to push the flames toward hiding enemies.
Hydrophobia's third-person combat will feel familiar if you've ever played a cover-based shooter; Kate takes refuge behind obstacles and can then lean around them to take out enemies. Her handgun can be upgraded with different ammo types; you begin with stun rounds that have to be charged by holding down the fire button. The stun is nonlethal unless you hit an enemy many times, so early on in the game, it is important to use the environment against your foes by shooting leaking gas pipes and overhanging electrical cables. Ammo upgrades are far more effective, though they're also scarcer. They range from regular bullets and electrically charged shots to incredibly useful remote-detonated explosives. The rarity of these ammo types heightens the tension because you are constantly under pressure to make sure that your shots are accurate. If you're wasteful with your attacks, you'll be reduced to using the stun shot again.

Unfortunately, you don't get much time to use these new skills before the game is over, so the combat issues from the original game remain for most of Prophecy's Story mode. The lack of a melee attack continues to be an issue in Prophecy, especially in areas where environmental kills aren't possible. You are forced to repeatedly shoot enemies with the stun shot if you run out of other ammo, and there is no way to stun enemies and then quickly finish them off up close. The enemies themselves lack of variety; you spend the whole game fighting the same nameless, faceless terrorists, and there's little more variety in their weapons or attack patterns. One section also features enemies that constantly respawn as soon as your back is turned, making for an intensely frustrating fight before you earn the new water powers.

Hydrophobia Prophecy Trailer:

Universal Combat

Language: English
PC Game
Developer: 3000AD
384.00 ?b
Genre:
Shooter, Simulator
Description: Controversy is an undocumented feature in games designed by outspoken developer Derek Smart, whose previous work includes the Battlecruiser series of space simulations. So perhaps it’s no surprise that his latest effort, an expanded and updated take on the Battlecruiser universe called Universal Combat (which began life as Battlecruiser Generations), was the subject of litigation due to publisher DreamCatcher Interactive’s last-minute decision to ship the game as a $19.99 budget release. Unfortunately, Universal Combat probably just isn’t worth all the hassle. Much like its predecessor, Battlecruiser Millennium, this wildly ambitious simulation is torpedoed by an almost incomprehensible interface, the absence of a tutorial both in-game and in the poorly organized manual, numerous bugs, and many fit and finish issues, including dated production values. While it may contain incredible depth and a range of activities that let you wage war in almost every conceivable fashion, all of these features are inaccessible unless you have hundreds of hours available to figure everything out, and even then, the quality of these elements is uniformly lacking. This is the Rosetta Stone of computer gaming.

Test Drive Unlimited 2

  • Release: 2011
  • Language: Eng Rus
  • PC
  • Developer: Eden Studios
  • Publisher: Atari
  • 2.67 Gb
  • Genre: Racing
Description:
Late last year, Atari and developer Eden Studios released Test Drive Unlimited for the Xbox 360. Purportedly the first “massively open online racing” game, Unlimited provided you with a wide-open setting (the Hawaiian island of Oahu), a myriad of slick rides, tons of different races to take part in, and an online mode that actually let you occupy the same basic driving space as other online players and challenge them in competition. Not everything the game did on the 360 worked brilliantly, but it was an inventive and unique piece of technology that was impressive in its own right. Now the game has come to the PC, and for all intents and purposes, this version is nearly identical to the 360 game. It’s a little rougher around the edges than its 360 counterpart, but if you never played the 360 version and think the idea of racing around Hawaii while bumping up against other online players sounds like fun, this version’s worth a look. You start by picking a basic character model to represent yourself, and you’re whisked away to fabulous Hawaii to buy a car and a house, do a lot of random racing, and drive hitchhikers and models around the island for some reason. That’s about all there is to the premise. While it’s not shocking that a racing game wouldn’t have a major, in-depth storyline, the way the game introduces itself and the open-ended nature of the game world give you the impression that there might be some kind of plot to tie everything you do together. There isn’t. The lack of a cohesive thread to the missions and races does make Test Drive seem a bit pointless, but after a while, you cease to care and find yourself oddly engaged by this scattershot series of objectives.

Sinking Island

PC Game
English
Publisher: Encore Software, Inc.
Developer: White Birds Prod
1.95 Gb
Genre: Adventure Game

Description: The kneejerk reaction when booting up Sinking Island is, naturally, “BioShock much?” A quick glance at the cover art of this PC adventure will yield the same: It looks like the tower of Sagorah rises straight out of the ocean in all its art-deco glory. The comparisons end there, thankfully. In fact, you’re stranded on — you guessed it — a sinking island, whereas Rapture has already been (purposefully) sunk.
Walter Jones, a rich octogenarian of 500 pounds who built the palatial hotel/vacation home on Sagorah Island, has apparently fallen to his death off a cliff after someone gave his fancy wheelchair a nasty shove. Since only Jones’ grandchildren, his architect, and his lawyer, plus a couple islanders were around, the recently arrived inspector, Jack Norm, has quite a case on his hands. The situation isn’t helped by the terrible weather. Of course, it turns out various parties have grudges against the old man, and the family drama heats up even as your interest in playing the game cools down.

Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

Description: Just like the previous Rainbow Six games, Raven Shield lets you lead a group of elite international counterterrorists known as Rainbow. These guys are equipped with high-tech gear and high-powered firearms and are itching for an opportunity to shout, “Tango down!” In Raven Shield, you’ll help the Rainbow operatives on a mission with a rather forgettable plot that involves a James Bond-style madman and Nazi loot from World War II. In fact, as you play the rather short single-player campaign, you’ll find that storytelling isn’t one of Raven Shield’s strong suits. You’ll receive clear text and audio mission briefings and see a few well-directed but brief cutscenes, but these sequences don’t quite create a strong sense of drama or immersion. Rather, the storytelling feels like merely a flimsy framework to hang the tactical combat on.
Also, the mission goals sometimes tend to blur together into a repetitive string of “Kill the terrorists and rescue the hostages.” This sometimes makes the Rainbow team seem like a regular SWAT team instead of a truly elite international organization. And unlike the classic SWAT 3, Raven Shield rarely creates any real emotional connection with the hostages. In many cases, they’ll essentially be a mission goal, similar to the hostages in the extremely popular Counter-Strike–you won’t even see them until the very end of a mission.

Need For Speed: Shift

Description: After a long stint as an arcade racer, Need for Speed is heading into simulation territory with Need for Speed: Shift. Announced in January as part of a three-game announcement that includes Need for Speed: Nitro and Need for Speed World Online, Shift takes a new, more realistic approach to racing and will be going head-to-head against seasoned pros Gran Turismo and Forza for the attention of serious racing fans One of the immediately obvious innovations in Shift is the way it tries to simulate crashes; the development team is trying to re-create the jarring, often fear-filled experience. In addition to motion blur, you’ll experience some violent camera shake–not too dissimilar to an onboard camera during crash replays–and you’ll also experience temporary vision blur after crashes. This is accompanied by the typical audio effects involved in a high-speed collision, but also additional sound effects from your driver, such as a stress-induced spike in heart rate and even a sharp gasp of breath before impact. Lots of other small effects have gone into making Shift feel as realistic as possible, including tunnel vision at high speeds, subtle reflections coming off the windshield, and heat haze emitted from engines.
Shift is all about your experience as a race driver. The action will take place on existing, licensed racetracks, on new racetracks created for Shift, and on street circuits. There is no open-road racing this time around, and we were promised you won’t be pursued by the police or have to take part in old-fashioned street races. Instead, Shift will feature 15 real-world locations in addition to fictitious tracks. We got a chance to see the Brands Hatch Race Circuit in Kent and a new London street circuit. The Brands Hatch course looks to be a faithful re-creation of the ex-Formula One racetrack, with a mix of long straights, sweeping curves, sharp corners, and hairpin turns offering variety throughout. Zipping around it with an Audi RS4 was a great introduction.

Fifa 2011

Description:
Just two years ago it seemed as if EA Sports had turned its back completely on the PC. With big franchises like NHL and Madden being stripped altogether, it was only FIFA that was left to stumble onwards.
And stumble it did; whereas on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 FIFA has established itself as the finest football game available, on the PC it’s been less convincing of. There have been a few wayward attempts at innovation – such as FIFA 09′s introduction of mouse and keyboard play – but it’s been lagging behind its console counterparts in almost every regard, the PC version of FIFA 10 a pale imitation of its full-blooded brethren. With the introduction of FIFA Superstars and FIFA Online, it’s tempting to think that, for the core FIFA experience, EA Sports has indeed abandoned the PC – or at the very least wilfully neglected it. It’s an approach that’s acknowledged by the talk surrounding the reveal of FIFA 11 on the PC – in the past, PC has suffered, but this year EA Sports is keen to make amends.
It’s doing that by using, for the very first time, the engine that’s propelled the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions to such success. Confusingly EA insists on calling it the next-generation engine, and while it’s not as good as what we’re expecting from whatever Microsoft and Sony’s hardware divisions have lined up for us in the future it’s certainly impressive.

Left 4 Dead 2

Description:
Last year Left 4 Dead unleashed a harrowing and entertaining vision of what it’s like to be on both sides of the zombie apocalypse. Whether you were shooting your way through hordes of infected (the preferred nomenclature) en route to possible rescue, or scheming with your fellow superpowered zombies (an acceptable colloquialism) in an effort to choke, eviscerate, and otherwise kill the intrepid survivors, Left 4 Dead was enormously fun. The only real drawback was the shortage of content. Left 4 Dead 2 does not have this problem, offering five new campaign maps that can be enjoyed across five uniquely engaging game modes. These campaigns are more diverse, more atmospheric, and more exciting, thanks largely to the stellar level design. Left 4 Dead 2 also improves on the original in almost every other way, featuring new weapons, new items, new enemies, and new survivors that make the game richer across the board. Though the core action remains largely unchanged, the widespread enhancements make Left 4 Dead 2 even better than its impressive predecessor. This is one zombie apocalypse you do not want to miss. The heart of Left 4 Dead 2 is the five campaign maps that take the survivors through a wide variety of terrain in the Deep South. From murky swamplands to a creepy carnival ground, from flooded suburbs to claustrophobic city streets, every environment is detailed and immersive. Clever design touches abound, some of which are clues that show you which way to progress. It’s deceptively easy to get turned around, especially since you aren’t the only ones who have been leaving piles of bodies around. Left 4 Dead 2′s environments help tell a story, and as you travel through the remains of a massive government-organized evacuation effort, you get a better sense of how it all went down. The campaigns now string together to make one long adventure, and though the oppressive, desperate mood seethes more potently this time around, there is still plenty of levity and high-impact excitement. Well-timed survivor quips make trudging through zombie-infested swamps a bit less nerve-racking, and thunderous rainstorms make a tense final stand (the moments right before your rescue) even more dramatic. The sound design is a standout once again, filling the air with eerie strains and helpful cues, as well as conveying the full range of the survivors’ emotions. This rich atmosphere is enhanced by the wider variety of choke points and final stands, all of which give the campaigns their own unique pace.

Kane And Lynch 2: Dog Days

Description: The first thing you can’t help but notice about Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is its aesthetic. The entire game is seemingly played from the perspective of an invisible drunk who, armed with the world’s worst camcorder, has decided to follow protagonist Lynch everywhere he goes. The shakiness of the camera is optional, but other effects such as compression artifacts, lens flare, and lights smearing vertically across the screen are mandatory. You might initially find this visual style quite distracting, but because the treatment is always consistent, it doesn’t take long to get used to it. Opting to keep the shaky cam switched on can make the game a little more challenging in spots because it interferes with your aim, but other than a few cut scenes in which the camera sways for no apparent reason, its movement is very much in keeping with your own and with your surroundings. And, invisible cameraman theories aside, it makes sense that your view and your aim would be a little compromised when sprinting as fast as you can or getting knocked to the ground after taking a bullet–both of which you spend a lot of time doing.

Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs

  • Language: English
  • PC
  • Developer : Activision
  • Publisher : Activision
  • 1.23 GB
  • Genre : Action (Adventure) / 3D / 3rd Person
Description:
Yeah, believe it or not there’s a third Ice Age movie in theaters, and that means that there’s yet another film-inspired videogame for you to sit down with. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs lets you play as your favorite fuzzy critters from the movie and provides you with a tale that complements the movie — generally, you’re playing the parts of the film that weren’t shown in theaters.
Is it a Game of the Year contender? No, but Ice Age shouldn’t be written off as movie cash-in, either. Classifying the gameplay can be a bit difficult. In the beginning, it’s pretty much a straight platformer with you taking Sid the Sloth through the paces — baby-proofing the wooly mammoth nursery, battling hedgehog-looking dudes, and collecting fruit to be used as currency. However, the deeper you get, the more there is to do. Later levels have you playing in a shooting gallery where you blast passing dinos with your plant shooter, flying pterodactyls in massive dogfights as Buck, and plowing through side-scrolling levels as Scrat.
This variety is appreciated and a nice change of pace, but in the end it won’t do much for the older players among us because the game’s pretty frickin’ easy. You have a health meter in the upper-left corner that’ll deplete when you get hit or whatever, but there are plenty of strawberries to pick up to refill that meter as well as the ability to purchase upgrades. From there, it’s just hitting bad guys, learning where to roll your egg so you don’t die, and so on.

Grand Theft Auto IV: GTA IV

  • Publisher: Rockstar
  • Developer: Rockstar
Description:
Stepping off a boat in the shoes of illegal immigrant Niko Bellic as he arrives in Liberty City at the start of Grand Theft Auto IV, you can tell immediately that Rockstar North’s latest offering is something quite special. Yes, this is another GTA game in which you’ll likely spend the bulk of your time stealing cars and gunning down cops and criminals, but it’s also much more than that. GTAIV is a game with a compelling and nonlinear storyline, a great protagonist who you can’t help but like, and a plethora of online multiplayer features in addition to its lengthy story mode. The PC version adds a customizable radio station and a video editor to the package, and also ups the multiplayer count from 16 to 32 players. It’s not all good news, though; the game suffers from some noticeable performance issues even on rigs that far exceed the unreasonably high recommended system specifications, and you need to be signed in to Windows Live to save your progress in the single-player game. This should have been the best GTA game yet, but it’s inferior to its console counterparts.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

PUBLISHER: Electronic Arts
DEVELOPER
: Bright Light Productions
DESCRIPTION
: Two years ago, I nearly pooped my pants. See, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix came out on the PC and it didn’t suck — in fact, it was decent. If you’re just joining us, that’s pretty much unheard of when you’re talking about movie-based games. Now, with another H.P. movie bearing down on us, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is coming to your favorite videogame console. Can EA defy movie-to-videogame logic one more time?
The answer is “yes.” And although it isn’t the greatest game in the world, some simplified mouse controls actually make this title a fair bit better than the last outing and makes for a pretty fun game. If you’re interested in this title, chances are that you’ve already read the books and are awaiting the movie. Still, I’ll do my best to summarize what’s up this time around: Harry, Ron, and Hermione are back for their sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, everyone’s abuzz about the latest happenings in the world of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and Draco is up to no good. Sure, that sounds like every Harry Potter story, but this time things are really bad.

Eragon

Description: Eragon the video game is based on the movie, which itself is based on the book of the same name. It’s a typical fantasy world full of dragons, wizards, and magic, which would seem to lend itself well to a video game adaptation in the vein of the very good series of Lord of the Rings action games that came out alongside those movies. In fact, the Eragon game bears a striking resemblance to those Lord of the Rings games, which only makes sense because the games were all developed by the same company. But while the Lord of the Rings games were well-polished action games, Eragon feels unfinished and lazily thrown together. It’s the same basic hack-and-slash principle that’s readily accessible to just about any fan of the film, but Eragon feels like a skeleton of a game that’s been padded out with some licensed content. There’s not nearly enough to make the game interesting or even remotely worth playing, though. The action is mindless and repetitive at best, and buggy and unresponsive at worst. In addition, the presentation ranges from bland to ugly, the game is short, the fixed camera angles are frustrating, and there is no online play. Even for a straightforward action game,

Delta Force: Xtreme 2

  • Platform: PC
  • Release Date: June 2, 2009
  • Published by: NovaLogic
  • Type: ISO
  • Size: 962 Mb
  • Genre: Shooter, War
Description:
Delta Force Xtreme 2 is a first-person shooter where, as a part of the Delta Force Special Operations team, you must protect US interests by parachuting into various third-world countries and decimating a hodgepodge alliance of terrorists, drug smugglers, and Uzbek separatists. The game’s primary appeal lies in huge multiplayer matches with vast, sprawling terrain and support for up to 150 players. However, in DFX2 even the multiplayer experience rarely rises above mediocre, while the single-player never even comes close. With gameplay and graphics that lag behind other military-themed shooters, Delta Force Xtreme 2 offers little to distinguish itself. DFX2 follows the Delta Force formula of large, open maps and subpar graphics with a limited variety of simplistic textures. Even budget game caveats won’t prepare you for these graphics, which compare negatively to older military FPS games that sell for even less. Technically speaking, the game doesn’t seem to have advanced much beyond 2005′s Delta Force Xtreme, which certainly wasn’t ahead of its time. As a result, the absurd physics destroy any sense of realism by making vehicles feel like bumper cars, while weapon recoil is comparable to your average super soaker. In multiplayer, nobody plays the terrorist; instead, everyone looks the same, and you can only identify your teammates by the presence of names above their heads. The advertised 150-player limit for games seems to be mostly theoretical–you’ll be lucky to play on a server with one-third of that number. Similarly, the 40 multiplayer maps are mostly variations of the same batch of maps for the five different competitive game modes.

James Bond 007: Blood Stone

Publisher: Activision

Developer: Bizarre Creations

Release Date: Nov 2, 2010

Genre: Action Adventure

Description: Like a great Bond movie, James Bond 007: Blood Stone jumps headfirst into a spectacular action scene before the opening credits even roll. Going from silently dropping enemies on a ritzy yacht right into a pair of harrowing chase scenes–first by boat on the Mediterranean and then by car on the streets of Athens–this third-person action game from Bizarre Creations makes a thoroughly memorable first impression. What follows is a game that takes its sweet time stepping outside the shadow of this explosive prologue, as a number of early levels fall prey to flat pacing and drab, predictable level design. Such woes don’t last forever, though, because the invigorating energy of that opening scene returns full force in the latter half of the adventure. The result is an uneven yet worthwhile James Bond experience, aided in no small part by stellar production values that make it easy to forget that this Bond story isn’t tied to a new movie.

Alpha Protocol

Description: would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Obsidian Entertainment also has a solid reputation for technical issues with their games.  KOTOR 2 was plagued with bugs, cut content and glitches throughout the game.  It was clear that they got behind and then had to rush to finish their game and release it on time.  Neverwinter Nights 2 in particular suffered from a rough launch and was plagued with bugs post-release for some time, creating the cycle of patch after patch after patch.
Taking all of this into consideration, we are left with a company that releases fun, solid games that are often rushed and plagued with their fair share of bugs and technical glitches.  Alpha Protocol is therefore the quintessential Obsidian Entertainment game.

ARMA II: Advanced Combat Environment

Year: 2011
Language: Eng, Rus
PC Developer: Bohemia Interactive Studios
1.36 GB

Genre: Action (Tactical / shooter), Strategy (Tactical), Simulator
Description: Arma II is a first- and third-person tactical shooter that simulates a military operation in the midst of a growing civil war in the fictitious European country of Chernarus. The sequel to Armed Assault and the spiritual heir to Operation Flashpoint, Arma II sets a new standard for realistic military simulation games. While Bohemia Interactive’s games have always been detailed and ambitious, its latest has surpassed its predecessors by adding meaningful interaction with non-player characters (other than shooting them), increasing the number of moral and strategic choices you will face throughout the campaign, and achieving unprecedented levels of detail, openness, beauty, and believability in the setting. Despite an infuriatingly buggy single-player campaign and some artificial intelligence driving issues, Arma II is a triumph. From its fascinating, sophisticated, and unscripted battles to the immersive detail of the gameworld, Arma II delivers a wholly unique and uncommonly replayable gaming experience. Arma II’s setting is visually striking, amazingly detailed, and brimming with life. Modeled after regions of the Czech Republic, the landscape is so authentic that you could orienteer by watching the stars move across the sky. The terrain includes picturesque forests, mountains, beaches, and pastures, plus one large urban area and several smaller towns, and in many missions, you’ll have free rein to traverse vast tracts of the 86-square-mile gameworld. Alongside the Chernarussian people, wild animals and livestock go about their respective lives. However, the animal AI is disappointingly indifferent to the war. Another element of the environment that can interrupt the immersion is the scarce number of civilians you’ll encounter per town, along with how few buildings you can enter. On the whole, however, finding a well-worn trail in the forest or commandeering a farmer’s tractor for the occasional joyride makes the world feel lived in and real.

Processor: Fast Dual Core CPU or Quad Core

Tera: Pirate's Grotto

Not long ago I showed you Cultist's Refuge, an area in Bluehole's upcoming action-MMORPG Tera that was filled with skeletons, double-ended monsters and spiked floors. It was an instance designed for a team of players to tackle in an hour or two.

Today I bring you Pirate's Grotto, a dungeon which could easily be mistaken for another instance. In fact, I mistook it for one myself. But Pirate's Grotto, for all its complexity and detail, isn't an instance -- it's a questing area. Located near Cutthroat Harbor, there are a few ways to actually access the grotto according to Associate Producer Stephan Ramirez at En Masse (Tera's North American publisher), such as swimming into the heart of it, or by entering from the shore of Mistmoor island.

You're likely to visit the grotto as a part of the main story arc, in an attempt to deal with the pirates who have begun to enslave local villagers. It's an area aimed at level 31-34 players and is complex and multilayered. Rope bridges criss-cross the complex and tie tiers of caverns together. There are encampments to serve as rest spots for adventurers like yourself where Federaton officers are able to provide you with task, but stray far beyond these points and you find yourself in the heart of a Red Lash Pirates stronghold (hence the name "Pirate's Grotto").

By this level, enemies have begun to get a little more difficult, not just statistics-wise but in terms of how they fight you. The snake-like Naga, for example, are extremely quick and favor the use of poisons, while the pirates who carry ship wheels on their backs will react rapidly to your attacks. While most of these pirates are in it for the riches, it seems like the Naga might have an ulterior motive, as you'll discover during your journey.

There are bosses in the grotto too, such as the tattooed warrior in the above video. He hits very hard, so constant movement to avoid his more potent attacks is a must. Luckily, when he uses his stronger moves he gives you a little visual cue as warning, which will give you enough time to avoid it -- if you're good.

Deeper in the grotto is the treasure room of the Red Lash Pirates, being guarded by a "Gula." While most pirates might replace a lost limb with a hook or a peg, this Gula (a notorious race of cannibals) performed a ritual to bond himself with some sort of crab-thing. As Stefan Ramirez put it, "Some like to exhibit "left-over" parts from the creatures they find particularly delicious."

While in this particular instance the Grotto was tackled by a group of 4 (a warrior, two slayers and a priest), Pirates Grotto will only really requires you to have a group for boss fights.
